In the Smokies

trees alongside
trees up ahead
tree covered mountains
in summertime green
rise up to meet the road
white clouds
in a pale blue sky
driving along Little River
in the Great Smoky Mountains
near Gatlinburg
Tennessee

Written longhand in my trip journal on the morning of June 6, 2011 as my family of four wove through a driving tour of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Here are links to two companion poems written on the same day:

Smiling at your note, Ben. I do have a thing for trees. I drove my husband crazy taking pictures of individual tress on a hike we took in Northern Illinois way back in May. He had to keep stopping for me to catch up because I was dawdling and lollygagging. It does rather sound like we can't see the forest for the trees though… 😉

  3. 🙂 I figured. 😀
