looking out
at The City tonight
through a great big
picture window
no dividers
to break up
the magnificence
of twinkling lights
from cars, streetlights,
buildings and signs
below
sounds of the el
drift upward
to the ninth floor
where I’ll be sleeping
near him
what a view
wish I weren’t so tired
so I could drink it in
and daydream
while gazing
at downtown Chicago
from the hospital
bedtime here
goodnight
zzzzzzzz
I'm not patient enough, or steady enough, to take long exposure nighttime photographs. These will have to do. The abstract squiggles are kind of fun, even if they don't look like much you'd recognize. (Even with The Best Imagination.) It's a photograph of the lights, dancing through the window, nightlife in Chicago, as seen from my husband's hospital room, nine floors up. I truly was So Tired, trying to put my thoughts and feelings into some sort of order. I was falling asleep as I typed them, on November 14, 2011. The day he had his second cancer surgery.
