fairy tale light
as the sun rose
this morning
over the sidewalk
woman shoveling
dog chewing
on thorny stalks
the Peace rose
now dormant
long ago planted
by the front door
serene woman
wild and crazy dog
they snow play
after the work
she throws the ball
for him to chase
children sleeping in
it is Saturday
thankful for home
for Heaven above
the woman and dog
were there
under the sky
as the crescent moon
tucked into bed
and the sun rose
washing the earth
in fairy tale light

springtime sunrise

mornin’ arrived today
right on time
no more sleep for me
uncrated that dog
you know
that big sweet pup
the one I love,
my Blue
clipped on his leash
in a vivid hue
of the color
he is named for
we step outdoors
he sort of catapults
(well, dog-a-pults)
from the front door
chilly March temps
continue to linger
and yet,
the magical beauty
of birdsong
robins are hoppin’
along the thawin’ ground
atop the grass
that may be greener
or else I’m imaginin’
just tryin’
to will Spring along
steadily the sun rises
from behind a bank
of glowin’ clouds
mornin’ arrived today
right on time
I was outdoors
feet on the ground
ready to greet
this new day
me and my dog,
Blue

cookie time

My doorbell just rang. When I answered the front door, there was the cutest little Girl Scout standing on my front porch, alongside her smiling mother. The littlest Girl Scout, with a pixie smile, was dressed all in purple, topped off with her vest adorned with patches earned. Of course I bought one more box of thin mints, because I had exactly $4 cash, and they are my very favorite kind.
