Merry Christmas, from my husband to me. We stood side by side in The Coffee Maker Aisle and debated which make and model to buy. Settled on This One, which is set up on the counter now. Thanks, Honey, for lettin’ me have it early. Coffee will be on tomorrow. I’ve already drank my fill for today. Lookin’ forward to figurin’ it out. ~ Janean

I only made it to page six as I finished my second cuppa coffee. Filled up my third cup and headin’ home for Art Making. Feeling a little more awake than when I walked in the door at Panera this morning. I still look a little sleep rumpled with bed head hair. Oh well. I can live with that. ~ Janean

I wonder

Dear Oldest Son,

I look at you and wonder…

What you will be when you grow up?
A scientist? You love the world around you. Insects, animals and microorganisms. Every living thing.

A historian? Sometimes I think you are practicing to be a history professor, as you spout facts on battles past and the weaponry of war.

An inventor? You have a love of gadgets. You figure how things work. Your mind is always spinning. You will patent something before you die. I am sure of it.

A Pastor? You may be yet a boy, but you are a man of God. So filled with scripture from His Word, you know how to apply it each and every day. With your love of oration, and other gifts from Him, it’s a possibility.

An engineer, architect or builder? Well, you are a builder already. Since the block towers of your younger youth. Cardboard and duct tape bring you hours of fun. No limits to your imagination as it soars to heights higher than eagles fly. I am thinking of the jet, not the bird, for the plane probably has more altitude. You know what I mean. Together we can google it later.

I already know you are a dreamer, a teacher, an artist, musician and friend.

I already know your heart is so big with so much love to give. you have compassion and empathy and kindness in you.

I love you no matter what and I can’t wait to see what you grow up to be. But wait I will, as you are eleven and a half right now. No hurry! I am not rushing you. But until that day comes, when it’s time to set you free, until that day, I will wonder.

Love,
Mom

Since there is no coffee, or coffee making device in the house, I took myself to Panera after taking my boys to school. I needed coffee today. The Real Stuff. I added a dollop of decaf, and cream and sugar please. I grabbed a book on my way out the door, so I could sit and read as I sip this sweet elixir. My headache is easing. My system is humming. I may be awake enough soon to make that art I am showing next Wednesday. Mmmmmm, coffee, and a cranberry and walnut bagel too. Don’t mind if I do. Top o’ the morning to ya! ~ Janean

Just a dusting of snow today.
“Not enough” according to my youngest son who is longing and praying for it so.
It’s a start.
A practice snow.
Pretty as it falls.
No need to shovel.
Works for me.

It’s an Art Day

It’s another Art Day here. I can hardly wait! I’ve been invited to show my artwork at a shop in uptown Normal next Wednesday, and I said, “Yes”, even without a stack of completed art, ready and waiting to go on display, at a moments notice. (About a week’s notice in this case.) Along with the “Yes”, I admitted that the ideas have been stacking up, but I hadn’t set aside the time and space to make the art. So, today is the day, and most likely tomorrow. I’m lookin’ forward to it, with a sparkle in my eye and a ready grin. Hooray! It’s An Art Day here!  ~ Janean
