the day in between

July 5, 2011
a new day dawns
chemo and radiation
start today
for my husband
I'm calling it
the day in between

yesterday was
Independence Day
with family
fireworks
and fun
laughter too

tomorrow
our youngest son
turns eight
he's so excited
for his birthday
to just get here
already

then there is today
the day in between
a big day
a day of action
as treatment begins
a day of questions
as we wonder
is it stage 4
not saying it aloud

wedged between
two specials days
the day in between
another day
we'll remember
from here on out
hoping for the best
praying for healing
fighting with all we got
it's more real now
the cancer diagnosis
on the day in between

Today dawned with a quiet sunrise and not a cloud in the sky, as I face east, looking in between the rooftops of my backyard neighbors, for the glow of the morning sun, on this day in between.

Last night, on July 4, 2011, my oldest son (he's going into 6th grade) took this sunset picture from the front seat of my car. We were going to town from my in laws farm to see the fireworks in the park. As I handed him the camera and pulled the car over I asked if he would, "Roll down the window and take a picture of the sun setting." What I MEANT TO SAY was, "Roll the window ALL THE WAY DOWN and THEN take a picture…" Regardless of my dirty car windows showing, I'm glad he captured the brightly glowing sun as it set over the corn fields of central Illinois and I do have to acknowledge that technically he did follow directions.

Love you too, Sweet Sister of Mine! Yes, yesterday was the 19th anniversary of my first date with my hubby, when he made me supper and we went to see the fireworks in our college town. It was also the 8 year anniversary of the day he kept counting down the hours until midnight SO SURE that our youngest son would be born on the 4th of July. He held out a few days longer until the 6th as you well know. Thank you for the prayers, virtual hugs and Positive Thoughts. It is what it is. Either way, we'll deal with it. Love, Janean

LizBeth, Thank you for your words. It IS a great picture! I love the silhouette of the car's door frame and the way the sun is caught in the nook and the glow of the sun…I hate that I felt I needed to apologize for my dirty windows and explain the instruction I'd given and CAN'T JUST LET IT BE. Part of me wants to edit that out but the other part feels I need to honor the In The Moment-ness of blogging and Let It Stand. Over thinking?! Perhaps…but that's just me too. As a former graphic artist/Art Director I am not a fan of Photoshopped photographs. It's Too Easy. I like the realness and the truth that photos capture. Even when we don't want to see it or can't see it with our eyes as we snap the photo. You're good for me. Thank you. ~ Janean
