because I do

I say, “I love you” with the clothes I clean

I say, “I love you” with the groceries I buy

I say, “I love you” with the food I prepare

I hear you say it too

when you say, “Thank you”

I say, “I love you” when you seem blue

I say, “I love you” before I leave the house

I murmur, “I love you” as we fall asleep at night

sometimes you say, “I love you too”

I hear you say it

in other ways

I probably say it too much

just know

I do

Today is a mystery

Today is a mystery

sort of wide open

with things that need done

not sure I want to do any of them

so I will do some

one appointment I won’t miss

and no, it’s not the dentist

I hope it’s filled

with family and friends

with laughter,

smiles, hugs and grins

the tears need to stay at bay

I don’t have time

for you today

so far

so good

She is the calm and reasonable one.
Always there to comfort and help.
Never expecting anything back.
Not is she ever asking for help.
But she has this perverse need.
That she will be in your mind.
At all time alwyas and forever.
The one you think of with love.
She need to be needed and loved.
She not in a romantic way.
But just to take place in your heart.
And never leave is her need.

The simplicity in your writings is charming, i love “child of whimsy” it’s so beautiful and truthful. even thought and as far as i know motherhood isn’t easy, but you’ve reflected the beauty of it :).

Thank you for taking the time to send me this beautiful note. Such a nice surprise to wake up to this morning. I cherry picked some of my favorite moments of motherhood, and my own childhood, for “child of whimsy”. No need to talk about crying nights when sleep is a lost cause for both of us, and you’re praying for morning, when you can call the doctor to get a prescription to heal the ear infection your five month old baby has, for the Ella Bella challenge. I have two sons, ages 11 and 8. It was fun to imagine having a little girl, as I first wrote and then rewrote it with colored markers on colored paper. I have one niece. Her name is Emma. I may tweak it a bit as a gift for her. ~ Janean
