nice words

Yesterday I heard two things a woman always loves to hear:
1. From a wonderful friend, “You look thinner.”
2. My 14 year old nephew, “Aunt Janean, Grandma just told me how old you are.”
I reply, “I’m 41.”
Sweet teenage boy says, “I can’t believe it! I thought you were in your 30’s.”
These are words a woman remembers. If you’re looking for me today, my thinner, 30-something self, will still be floating on Cloud 9 with a mile wide smile, Artist, Poet, Daydreamer Style.

dog talk

My dog isn’t spoiled at all. I just told him, “We aren’t going outside to see your friend Jake right now. I’m making soup.” Jake is the new puppy on the street, part collie and super cute. In lieu of getting his way Blue is wild woofing and pacing between the front window and me in the kitchen, hoping I’ll change my mind. Maybe. After my soup. It’s chicken soup with lime time.

I have a “works” hair appointment today
a much needed, long overdue one
last time for color was early June
last cut was sometime mid-July
when life isn’t topsy turvy crazy I get it cut every month
and colored every other to economize
when I was about to leave for my appointment
I found my husband to say, “goodbye”
while my body language was sayin’, “I gotta go now, I don’t wanna be late”
so with a hug and a kiss he said, “Come back pretty.”
I replied, “I will.”
sittin’ under the dryer now
tryin’ to make good on that promise
mmmmm, thankful for this appointment time
hair therapy I call it
my brother’s wife is the hair artist
we have fun catchin’ up and gabbin’
while her hands fly about
I leave feelin’ lighter on the inside
and smilin’ on the outside
where the pretty shows

up since 5:00
one cup o’coffee down
a bowl of cereal too
almost 6:30 now
as I laugh and throw the ball for Blue
his appointment is at 8:30
that wonderful husband of mine
for 15 years and counting
20 years together in July
friends before that
today we find out
if the chemo has worked
or if the cancer has spread
yet here I am
playing with the dog
his dog
the one he’s always wanted
trying to keep the worries and fear at bay
until we know what the doctor has to say
other than THAT
it’s a beautiful morning
crisp early a.m. air
birdsong from the treetops
not much traffic noise
less than two hours to go
and then we’ll know
what’s next

Spring is moving along at warp speed.
Everything is blooming ASAP!
These Bradford Pear trees usually bloom mid-April.
Yet, here they are, mid-March!
I can’t quite believe it.
I’m loving the balmy temperatures.
It’s been in the 70’s and low 80’s with no humidity.
What’s not to like?!
No need for a jacket or heavier cold weather gear.
I’ve even ditched shoes and socks for sandals and bare feet.
Most shocking is my choice of attire…
Hopefully I didn’t scare too many neighbors while sporting shorts and a tank top on Sunday afternoon.
In my defense, it was hot.
Yes, Spring is moving along at warp speed.
Summer will be here before we know it.
Perhaps in May, instead of June.
Time will tell.
However, there really isn’t any need to rush.
