by moonlight tonight

just in from last walk of day with Blue
he saw his best girl, Luna
her silver fur gleaming
under a starlit sky
Orion was shining low near the horizon
they woofed, pranced and nuzzled noses through the chain link fence
a divider
keeping them apart
I told him it was time to go
but had a helluva time dragging him away
she’s his best girl
and even prettier by the moonlight she is named for
they’ll both dream sweet dreams tonight
it’s more than puppy love
‘cause I’m a hopeless romantic
and I just know
they are meant to be
for it’s written in the stars
though sometimes star tales get crisscrossed
these two are meant to be
Blue + Luna
forever

mornin’ musings

circlin’ ‘round the block with Blue
in the brisk cold of December
the ground looks covered in stardust
just the grass glitterin’ from frost
not dust from the stars twinklin’ above
in a sky of the darkest black
there are extra lights a shinin’
in a myriad of colors and shapes
‘tis the season for Christmas lights
amidst the sparkling earth and heaven bright
in the stillness of early mornin’
tears threaten but do not fall
as I take in all the sights
the only sounds are boot falls on concrete
and the jinglin’ of my dog’s tags
as I circle the block with Blue
in the early morning hours
while the rest of the family is sleeping
on this December morn

I’ve been wearin’ my cowgirl boots everywhere, except to sleep in, for several months now. I slide ‘em on with my pajamas in the early morning to walk the dog, sometimes barefoot, if thick socks aren’t at the ready. Today I had a doctor’s appointment…just an annual check up…the girl kind. Couldn’t help but smile, as I sat waitin’, all gowned up, and caught a glimpse of my discarded street clothes with boots at the ready, for when it was time to go. Home now. Glad that’s over for another year. It’s now mid-afternoon and time to walk the dog again. Boots on the sidewalk. Paws too. Haulin’ ass and tail. ~ Janean

I wonder as I wander,
“When will the robins fly away?”
it is early December now
yet I still see them here
perched in treetops
hopping in the grass
singing a trilling song
“For how much longer?”
cold is lingering
wind is whipping
winter is coming
soon

Dear Robin Red Breast,
You must go now,
so you can return,
and be a sign of spring renewal.
I hope you hear me when I say,
Hurry back, so I can greet you, when you come again, with a smile brightly shining.
I’ll sigh a sigh of springtime,
when temperatures begin to warm,
when winter’s wind gentles to a balmy breeze,
then I’ll whisper, “The robins are back. Spring is here.”
But now, now it’s time to go.
Please.
Love,
Janean

I very much enjoyed the ISU String Project concert this morning. My oldest son is the violinist third from the left in front. *yes I know he looks like a white and black spec, but it’s him* I tapped my booted toes, smiled my proud mama smile, sang along to The Monkey Song and took the ipad away from my youngest son for the three songs his big brother played.

this is why I can’t unplug
walkin’ back into the kitchen
from boy wakin’
laundry foldin’
and dog wranglin’
I took one look out the deck doors and said with awe and wonder, “Look at the sky!”
then I grabbed my camera with phone and internet functions too
took a pic…well, actually two
and had to share with you

leakin’ salt water

everything is making me cry today
gonna unplug
^ from the woman who totally sucks at it
solitude and quiet would be lovely
but they aren’t layered into the schedule
things to do
places to go
people to see, love, hug and care for
one big ole dog and striped cat too
so I will go and do
but I can’t read words today
not on Facebook
not on Caring Bridge
not on Twitter or Tumblr either
everything is making me cry today
