I’m standing with one foot on the ledge between the kitchen sinks, and one foot on the adjacent kitchen counter, twisting a hook into the window moulding to hang a birthday treasure. My youngest boy just says, “Hi, Mom” as he ducks into the half bath off the kitchen. Blasé. No big deal. Curiosity not piqued at all. Even though, for the record, I am not often found counter climbing. In other news, both of my feet are back on ground now, even if my heart is soaring a bit, as I daydream and smile at the blue crescent moon made of glass now dangling over my head. On sunny days the faceted clear crystals will add colorful rainbows to my kitchen walls. I can hardly wait! Until then, I’ll smile at la lune and dream about the kind of moments that happen just once in a blue moon. Smiling crooked crescents are my favorite moon phase, other than half, three quarter and ginormous full. I sort of love them all!

morning light

early morning
brisk air walk
sky still dark
as if midnight
my favorite
crescent moon
hangs crooked
shining in the sky
amidst many stars
Orion the hunter
armed and ready
dog curled up
love seat snoozing
I’m debating
catch more zzzzzz’s
or coffee

6:20am

pink clouds and a half moon
sit atop a pale blue sky
I look heavenward
from the sidewalk
just outside my front door
Blue dog standing next to me
walking is our daily routine
it is the sky above
that changes
surprising us
with hints of glory

photo taken at 6:40am
words began as first two lines
and a snippet of thought
wrote a little more just now
at 9:40am
while standing in the kitchen
as the aroma
of just brewed coffee
beckons

welcoming the dawn

Now the sky is brightening
As the darkest shade of navy gives way to a soothing, medium blue hue
The stars no longer visible
La lune still shines
Like a moon-ball in the sky
Even as the sun begins to ascend
Facing East there is a pale yellow glow along the horizon
Good morning
A new day is dawning

doggone dog I love
woofed before 5:30am today
he hasn’t done that for awhile
he’s learned to sleep in, my Blue
today he barked and fussed a bit
to let me know he really meant it
up and at ‘em
put summer clothes on
enough to hit the sidewalk
and be decent
we set off for the park
on our usual morning route
I quickly realized
the beauty of his timing
for Blue knew
it was a special morning
the moon so full and luminous
glowing o’er our heads last night
twas even more lovely
in the early morning light
with pale blue sky
behind the glowing sphere
wisps of pink clouds surrounding
to keep her from feeling bare, exposed
she shows her lovely luminescence
as a new day dawns
a morning moon lit the sky before us
as the sun rose to our backs
Blue and I kept moving forward
looping through the park
circling back toward home
always
home

la lune calendar

summer days
summer haze
a sliver o’crescent moon
as June began

summer days
summer haze
semicircle half a moon
as days goes by

summer days
summer haze
three-quarter moon
makes the sky brighter
as time flies

summer days
summer haze
before you can blink
the moon is full
how can that be
so many moments
have gone by
I’m keeping track
on la lune calendar
doing moon math

summer days
summer haze
next thing you know
a sliver o’crescent moon
will smile again
in July

hide and seek

no stars tonight
snow is forecast
cloudy overhead
the moon is hiding
she is transforming
shrinking
clouds obscure
our view
sometimes
we catch a glimpse
at dawn

I started writing this poem in my mind last night, while walking Blue, but needed bedtime rest for the words to percolate and brew. Starlight soothes me. I missed the stars last night, and that playin’ hide and seek moon.
