pink clouds and a half moon
sit atop a pale blue sky
I look heavenward
from the sidewalk
just outside my front door
Blue dog standing next to me
walking is our daily routine
it is the sky above
that changes
surprising us
with hints of glory

photo taken at 6:40am
words began as first two lines
and a snippet of thought
wrote a little more just now
at 9:40am
while standing in the kitchen
as the aroma
of just brewed coffee
beckons

hiding no more

Blue and I are walking early
In the crisp cool dark of morning
Finally I get to see September’s full moon
She’s been obscured by clouds before this morn
La lune
The stars are still out too
I see Orion
(That’s the constellation I know.)

doggone dog I love
woofed before 5:30am today
he hasn’t done that for awhile
he’s learned to sleep in, my Blue
today he barked and fussed a bit
to let me know he really meant it
up and at ‘em
put summer clothes on
enough to hit the sidewalk
and be decent
we set off for the park
on our usual morning route
I quickly realized
the beauty of his timing
for Blue knew
it was a special morning
the moon so full and luminous
glowing o’er our heads last night
twas even more lovely
in the early morning light
with pale blue sky
behind the glowing sphere
wisps of pink clouds surrounding
to keep her from feeling bare, exposed
she shows her lovely luminescence
as a new day dawns
a morning moon lit the sky before us
as the sun rose to our backs
Blue and I kept moving forward
looping through the park
circling back toward home
always
home

la lune calendar

summer days
summer haze
a sliver o’crescent moon
as June began

summer days
summer haze
semicircle half a moon
as days goes by

summer days
summer haze
three-quarter moon
makes the sky brighter
as time flies

summer days
summer haze
before you can blink
the moon is full
how can that be
so many moments
have gone by
I’m keeping track
on la lune calendar
doing moon math

summer days
summer haze
next thing you know
a sliver o’crescent moon
will smile again
in July

I’m packing away
a comforter today
the one my Grandma made
to top my childhood twin bed
twas my winter comforter
made of heavy fabric
for extra warmth
with a tangible weight to it
you know
when you’re nestled underneath
you can feel it
even as you sleep
Grandma and Grandpa’s love
always with you
they worked as a tag team
in nearly everything
my sister’s bed
sported a matching comforter
Grandma made two
nearly the same
a lot like my sister and I
for years I’ve said
(a bit tongue in cheek)
“She is the blonde version
and I’m the brunette.”
but beyond our similar look
face shape, smiles bright,
dimpled chin from our dad
we’re more alike than not
on the inside
I’m packing away
a comforter today
thankful
for the warmth, comfort and strength
this decades old blanket
made with Thompson Love
gave me
through the fall, winter and spring
now past

kitchen thoughts

blue skies and sunshine today
birdsong too
the boys in my house are still sleeping
even that big dog, Blue
once home from our walk
he fell back asleep
looks like he’s crashed for awhile
I’m putting coffee on and cooking an egg
“blue skies and sunshine”
the title of the painting I did
as part of a public mural
one rectangle among many
to decorate the downtown
I painted within a panoramic rectangle
sized 10’ wide by 3’ tall
while balancing atop scaffolding two stories up
that was a year ago
(yet it seems further away)
today I’m reminiscing
because it’s mural dedication day
complete with blue skies and sunshine
which feels very apropos

June 8, 2013
as of 7:40 a.m. on Saturday morning

rain lull

Here comes the rain
Pouring down from Heaven
Blue is doggy dozing
I had afternoon coffee
But a nap still sounds lovely
Thunder rumbles
Friday afternoon
Drifting on toward evening
Suddenly the shower ends
Birds begin to sing
Our happy feathered friends
Because worms are easy pickings
After the rain

morning calm

quiet stillness
except for a l’il birdsong
dog’s tags jingle
children sleeping in
my breakfast gone
one cup o’coffee left
Saturday morning

P.S. All I have to do is say or think, “Ahhh, quiet” and it disappears in less than two seconds. Next thing I knew Blue was wild woofing out the front window. Silly dog doesn’t understand that on Saturday his boys get to sleep in because there is no school today. Once the woofing stopped he started racing around like Rodeo Dog going for first prize in the Barrel Racing Competition. Now?! Well, I shouldn’t admit it, but I let him curl up next to me on the other half of the love seat. We’d done such a good job keeping the dog on the floor until recently when he sort of snuck up onto the couch to try it out. I shoo him down again…eventually. Amazingly enough, my two sweet boys are still sleeping, tuckered out from the last five day school week, with just a few more days to go before Summer Vacation arrives. That last cup o’coffee is nearly gone.
