rain lull

Here comes the rain
Pouring down from Heaven
Blue is doggy dozing
I had afternoon coffee
But a nap still sounds lovely
Thunder rumbles
Friday afternoon
Drifting on toward evening
Suddenly the shower ends
Birds begin to sing
Our happy feathered friends
Because worms are easy pickings
After the rain

This afternoon I’ll be speaking to three 4th grade classes about careers in art. I’ve had a few: gallery watcher, gallery crew/gallery watcher, graphic artist and art director. Currently I’m a fine artist and volunteer art teacher. I’m also to work in references to reading and math. I’m going to thrill the teachers when I say, “Artists need to know how to add and divide fractions.” ‘Tis true! I’m sending each child home with a copy of my poem, “sing your song”, as well as a brochure of summer classes offered at the McLean County Arts Center and business cards for Main Gallery 404. I added an extra copy to each stack so the teacher can have one too. Next week my Art Club will receive the same packet. Oh, how I love sharing the fun of creating art with others. Especially children. *happy sigh*

Sunday afternoon

Sitting on the back patio now. In the shade to avoid sun glare on my laptop screen. Have the wind in my hair – a l’il breezy but overall not bad. My dog is keeping me company and my youngest son just joined me. I’d summoned him out of doors to have a conversation – about cussing…because he said if he could cuss it’d let some of his mad out. I hear that! So much like his mama the way he slams doors, stomps and grr’s. I call him my grizzly bear cub and sign notes to him, “Grizzly Bear Mama.”

an Illinois observation

snow flurries dance upon the wind
bird song floats from the trees
the ground is nearly thawed
now the sun is shining
the flurries already gone
on this chilly March afternoon
must be spring in Illinois
when anything can happen
just talkin’ ‘bout the weather
it’s still Lion Time

LUNA
Blue just KNOWS
when it’s time to head outdoors and see his best girl
oh how she dances and prances at seeing him
he tries to go into Stealth Mode
as if he is invisible and she can’t hear his tags jingle or my booted feet hitting concrete
he hunkers down and crosses the street
trying for slow motion
but he’s tugging, “Hurry up!”
as he beelines toward her fence with complete canine devotion
as soon as we hit her sidewalk she woofs and he drags me on ahead
I hustle as I hold his leash, and can’t help but laugh aloud
the musical sound rings out, in the quiet of the neighborhood at high noon
these two purebred pups
oh my, but they do make me smile
bigger than puppy love
so I call it Dog Romance
not to say I don’t call ‘em Romeo and Juliet sometimes too
or drag Blue away, saying, “Come on, Casanova, it’s time to get on home.”
*sigh*
Love
long nose, pointy eared, tail wagging kind

feelin’ antsy

I’m antsy ‘cause of being gone for a week-ish starting tomorrow. Everyone else is tucked in, but I’m making a mug o’tea and staying up. Starting now, until its time to go, I’m going to try to do the 157 things I’ve been wanting to do for awhile, but haven’t quite gotten to…because now, all of a sudden, they gotta get done! *it’s hard to be going out of town for medical reasons, not a pleasure trip, and even more so, it’s hard leaving the children behind and being apart for any length of time too*
So, I better go and DO. I’m wound up and coiled tightly on the inside, ready to spring about. Boing! Of course, I also feel immensely weary, like I could curl up and sleep until sometime tomorrow afternoon. *sigh*

movie review

The movie my husband and I saw yesterday afternoon was fun
I enjoyed it more than I expected to
Sweet romance/love story
Father/daughter baggage dealt with well
Though she looked too young to be his daughter
Oh, and the cussing was magnificent
I loved the cussing because that’s the place I’m in now, deftly peppering my conversation with properly placed swear words for emphasis added
The baseball didn’t detract from the sweet wooing and head over heels in love falling either
*happy sigh*
