I don’t want us to be a silhouette,
I want us to be the light.
I don’t want to be a story unwritten,
I want us to be the song everybody sings.
I don’t want to simply go with it,
I want to make it happen.
I don’t want a faity tale,
I want… to dream with my eyes open.

the gift
my gift came quietly
in the glow of morning light
as a huge pink cloud
hovered and glowed from within
outside my kitchen window
suspended in a sea of blue
just waiting
for me to notice
the best gift ever
one that renews
with each new day
we’re given
the gift
of sunrise
Thank you, God
for today

Today’s the day.
My fortieth birthday.
Glad you’re finally here.
I’m baking a cake to celebrate.
It’s goin’ in the oven soon.
We’ll eat it after supper for dessert.
Taking my boys to school.
Lunch with my mom and sister in law.
We’re The December Birthday Girls.
Goin’ to Red Lobster.
Seeing a friend about some cookies.
They will be the Art Club snack.
Settin’ up for Club.
Makin’ art, with a roomful of energetic children.
My sons included.
Then Home.
For the rest of the night.
It’s going to be A Good Day.
How can it not be?
Family, Friends, Art, Cookies, Cake and Home.
Sounds like The Perfect Day to me.
I’m plannin’ to ROCK forty…
it is The New Thirty after all.
Love,
Janean

I love them still
they worked for me
a boy and a girl
for just a brief time
I didn’t sign their paychecks
but I was their supervisor
pouring what I knew
into them
she was tall and slender
all legs, long hair, and sass
he was more compact
with dark looks
and shoulders
broad enough to lean on
I listened to their problems
shared some of mine
fighting for their rights
standing between them
and upper management
over a decade between us
but we fit together fine
the three muskateers
though pirates was our theme
a crew of artists three
had I met them sooner
things might have been different
we had five months together
that time
was a gift
I loved them both
with all my heart
we kept in touch
even after I moved on
and left the work to them
a team well trained
my job there
done

bedtime tonight
tonight as I tucked him in,
my eight year old son,
his eyes lookin’ wide awake
my eye lids feelin’ heavy
he said, “My body clock
is on Tokyo time.”
well, that would explain it
I stretched out
beside him
and whispered
I love you
close your eyes
think happy thoughts
have good dreams
I’ll see you
in the mornin’
I may have dozed
for just a bit
fleece pjs on now
warmin’ up some
my pillow
is callin’
goodnight

I am a poet
Not because I write in forms
Not because I write in rhymes
Not because of the words you read
But because of the words in my soul
A heart forever longing
For a world that may never exist
A world where two hearts may live
A world where love can last.
I am not a poet for the words that are
But for the words that may someday be.
As I fall asleep at night
As I fall asleep at night
I think a million thoughts
the day just done
the day to come
and all the things To Do
As I fall asleep at night
my night light
keeps the dark at bay
my closet door is closed
to keep the monsters in
As I fall asleep at night
the ceiling fan rotates
round an round
a quiet whir that lulls
with a gentle breeze
As I fall asleep at night
the cat jumps on the bed
she settles in
with kneading loves
and purrs me to sleep

Gracious Words.: I am writer…
I will write until it hurts no more.
Until the last of the tears dry and the final drop of ink kiss the sullied pages of my notes.
I will write until no words are left unspoken and the final sunset has come down before these tired eyes.
I will write until every fiber in my hand is…
