tastebuds awakening

My oldest boy asked for SPAM again at supper time yesterday. He wanted to try it as a sandwich this time, which I served cold. He took a bite and then asked if I’d warm up the SPAM in the skillet again. Of course I obliged. Afterwards my thirteen year old son decided he liked SPAM best with breakfast. “looks can be deceiving”
I walked through the park
with my big sweet pup
midday, as we often do
the sky is quite lovely
a gorgeous shade o’blue
the clouds are puffy white
and daydream-like
from the window
things look balmy
but that March wind
blows in great big gusts
hits you hard
and knocks you back
it’s still Lion Time in Illinois
even today
on the first day of Spring
brrrrrr
I’m downright cold
still feelin’ chilled
even back inside
within the warmth
and comfort
of home

spring o’hope

damp sidewalk
from nighttime rain
brisk chill in the air
gray sky remains
no color
and yet
the birds are singing
trilling from the trees
beautiful
joyful
hopeful
birdsong fills me up
I smile broadly
and I mean it
from deep inside
my gut
I am a hopeful woman
for there is beauty
all around
hope springs eternal
like the songs
of those springtime birds

I savored the rosy glow of sunrise along the horizon, while walkin’ Blue this mornin’. The air has a snap o’chill, yet I’m thankful there was no bitin’ wind.
(Now home from walk. Ready to thaw with coffee, eggs and toast. Check my Weather App. Temp: 13 degrees Fahrenheit. Feels like: 0 It’s officially brrrrrr)

Did ya see the moon?
The moon was gorgeous, as I walked Blue in the six o’clock hour this morning.
It was big, nearly full and shiny bright.
The sky has been so cloudy here, I missed seeing the moon completely full.
I bet it was on Friday night though, when I was out of sorts and growly. *sigh*
Blue and I had a brrrr morning moonlight stroll. The cold temps didn’t stop me from smiling. I love having that big circle moon to light our way as we walk our familiar route, ‘round the block, through the park, and on toward home.
According to my Weather Channel phone app, the mercury read 15-degrees fahrenheit, and with the wind felt more like five. Good thing I bundled up, grabbed my dog, and moonlit strolled BEFORE I knew the exact temperature…had ya asked me, I just would have said, “It was cold”…and then chatter boxed about the beauty of the moon.

brrrrrrrr

I can’t get warm
from the outside in
which isn’t like me
to feel shivery
and chilled
from every little draft
brrrrrrr
I’m not eatin’ ice cream
or drinkin’ an icee
I’m not wearin’ shorts
or goin’ barefoot
brrrrrrr
I’m just cold
even my nose
like that sweet pup
the one I’ve been
takin’ in and out all day
in gray drizzle
with gusty winds
brrrrrrr
wearin’ three layers on top
fleece sweatshirt included
fuzzy slippers too
I coffeed up this mornin’
may need to try hot tea next
or just call it a night
and get under the covers
soon
