Minecraft lesson #2

Week two of Xbox 360 Minecraft lessons from my sons. My youngest boy was my teacher today. He made, “Blow Crap Up World” and taught me how to use TNT. It is kinda fun… I’m grinning after playing for around thirty minutes, before saying, “Enough.” Cooking up some bacon for two sleepyheaded boys for breakfast next. My incentive to learn how to move better, with the foreign feeling controller, was that if I could track and catch him, I could have a dog. I caught him. Hearts appear. Now I have a virtual canine companion too. Cool. Minecraft has a dragon in a dark portal lair. My youngest son slayed him. Proud Mama here. Said aloud, “I’m not an Xbox Girl.” My sons think there is hope for me though. Well, of course there is. I’m A Hope Full Woman for sure. A long time ago, I played Frogger on Atari. I even remember when Pong was cool. Yes. I’m that freaking old, typed with a smile and a bubbling laugh, because at 42 I feel like I’m just getting started. I am.

My youngest son slept in this morning. Sweet ten year old boy needed those extra zzzzz’s. The sound of his door creaking open from the top floor drifted down to where I stood in the kitchen. I smiled in anticipation even before I heard his joyful exclamation, “IT’S SNOWING!!!!!” He spied those tiny white flakes through the big picture window. I met him in the front door hallway. He hugged me. We stand nearly eye to eye. A few hours later, on the phone with my father, he told me my mother met the snowy morning in much the same way. Joy is all around us, especially in the simple things, those quiet moments, like a prolonged good morning hug that says, “I love you” without the actual words. Snowflakes are no longer dancing on the wind. My youngest boy has been window gazing periodically, still hopeful for a blizzard and no school snow days. Patience. Winter is just begun.

spring o’hope

damp sidewalk
from nighttime rain
brisk chill in the air
gray sky remains
no color
and yet
the birds are singing
trilling from the trees
beautiful
joyful
hopeful
birdsong fills me up
I smile broadly
and I mean it
from deep inside
my gut
I am a hopeful woman
for there is beauty
all around
hope springs eternal
like the songs
of those springtime birds

Spring forward

Spring forward
means May is gettin’ closer
one year since diagnosis
the end of six months of chemo
for him
not me
May
when another school year ends
and summer begins
a time for healing
how I love Spring forward this year
the sunrise
striped in orange
is lingering
now a golden glow
I feel hopeful
nearly there
I feel thankful
goin’ for the cure
so glad for the chance
to move the clock ahead
and get to May
one hour closer
for it’s time to
Spring forward

A Clarity of Conscious: Live…

aclarityofconscious:

2012 resolutions

Live every minute,
But watch for the moment,
The oft overlooked and insignificant moment,
when God whispers.

The still, soft voice,
When you least expect it,
Telling you He has not forgotten,
And is still very much by your side.

Live every minute,
with no thought for the…

I love this poem and the man who wrote it. He is still surprising me, in wonderful ways, even twenty plus year after meeting and marrying him. 2012 feels hopeful. So thankful for that.

A Clarity of Conscious: Live…

sometimes the happy shows

there are days you awake

with a sense of anticipation

today is one of those days

for me

my friends are coming over to play

we’re calling it A Planning Meeting

but under that Official Sounding Moniker

it’s a play date

for the women we are

artists and writers too

we’re having lunch

the four of us

fancy chicken salad and a veggie tray

with cookies and cake for dessert

maybe a walk afterwards

with the warmth of the sun

on a rare and wonderful 52˚ January day

rare for the Midwest anyway

my husband is teasing me

calling it a Cackle Party

he’s going out for lunch

instead of coming home

in the middle of his work day

after the daily drop off at 8:20 a.m.

to take my boys to school

I did some errands

just a few

I am home, by 10:00 a.m.

waiting for my friends

I smiled a serene smile

all through the grocery store

must of looked like

I was up to something

well, sometimes the happy shows

and oh, it feels so good

to be happy and hopeful

hello, 2012

so glad you’re here

it’s only day five

and I sort of love you

still grinning in anticipation here

watching the clock

’cause my friends are comin’ over

soon
