my day ended much the same way it began

walking my dog beneath a dark, yet starlit sky

I woke too soon this morning

4-something instead of 5-ish

I tried to go back to sleep

by 4:45am I’d given up

and murmured to my husband, “My brain’s awake.”

as I rolled out of bed

he wryly replied, “I don’t think it ever shuts down.”

perhaps not

there are those crazy dreams sometimes

the ones I remember in a vague, bizarre way

the day itself was a good one

drove my boys to school

and I went in with ‘em

spent the morning there

sittin’ in a 5th grade classroom

mounting Art Club art on colored paper

writing out title cards for each piece

then usin’ my three step stool

to hang this mini art show in the hall

in time for Grandparent’s Day on Thursday

home around 11 to walk Blue again

made a phone call, texted with a friend

ate some soup for lunch

napped

a luxury

set my phone alarm so I’d be up in time

to walk the dog again before school let out

picked up my children

fed my parent’s cats

home again

early supper

not a fancy one

make up soccer game at 5:30

for the one we didn’t play in the rain

the sunset was spectacular

my son’s team won the game too

home for the night this time

Blue and I went ‘round the block again

evening spent in the kitchen

dishes, bills, papers

then that last starlit walk

last one ‘til early mornin’ anyway

bedtime

everyone else is tucked in

my turn…now

‘night

Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Home for the night.
Wearin’ fuzzy slippers.
Cookin’ frozen pizza for two middle school boys.
(My oldest son and his friend from next door.)
They are playin’ video games in the basement.
My youngest son is right there with them.
Always.
Home.

NOTE: This is my 600th Tumblr post. Something had to be. Figured it might as well be about family, food and home. Those three things are all tangled up together – at least for me.

cat care

I’m sitting in a dark, quiet room in a comfy chair, with a purring cat on my lap. I wish I could stay here a little longer. But it’s only a temporary stop. I’ve taken too long here already. Was just supposed to get mail, feed and scoop after cats and go, but I’m running on empty. Everyone’s been home on spring break all week. I’m tapped out. Zapped out. Needing a fill up with some quiet time and space. Kitty cuddles help too. I like this lap warming cat a lot more than the yelling, mad, hungry wisp of old gray cat that met me at the door. I think she was running on E too, needing some cuddles right back. Ah, much better. I should be able to face the noise, chaos and commotion that one man, two boys, a six month old puppy and mad about the dog cat fill a house with. My house. I’ll be walking in the door in five minutes…once I get up from this chair that is. ~ Janean

not so ladylike

Sunday was for lipstick and pumps.
Tuesday night is for a half rack of barbecue ribs, slathered in just enough sauce that it covers your fingers.
So I sat at the supper table, and said to my two impressionable sons, and ever patient husband, “This is not good manners (as I licked my saucy fingers), but I’m going to do it anyway.”
Sometimes, I Am My Father’s Daughter.
Mmmmmmm, ribs for supper.
Gotta love it when your husband suggests carry out, and Chili’s has a 2 for $20 deal, AND after you order, when you’re ready to pay, you find out Kids eat FREE on Tuesdays.
YES!
Sometimes Tuesday ROCKS!!!

because I do

I say, “I love you” with the clothes I clean

I say, “I love you” with the groceries I buy

I say, “I love you” with the food I prepare

I hear you say it too

when you say, “Thank you”

I say, “I love you” when you seem blue

I say, “I love you” before I leave the house

I murmur, “I love you” as we fall asleep at night

sometimes you say, “I love you too”

I hear you say it

in other ways

I probably say it too much

just know

I do
