rain lull

Here comes the rain
Pouring down from Heaven
Blue is doggy dozing
I had afternoon coffee
But a nap still sounds lovely
Thunder rumbles
Friday afternoon
Drifting on toward evening
Suddenly the shower ends
Birds begin to sing
Our happy feathered friends
Because worms are easy pickings
After the rain

1. I am over the moon happy that all my dishes are done in this moment.
2. In other news, my shamrock plant from two months ago is still alive. That’s an amazing record of live plant longevity for me.
3. The day began cool, gray and rainy, yet now it seems the sun is trying to come out.

I LOVE ART

I enjoyed being a Career Day guest speaker. The fourth graders were great listeners! One class even clapped after I read my poem, “sing your song.” Others ooo’ed and ahh’ed at my artwork as it appeared on the smart board. I have a new skill now too: Smart Board Operator. I’ve already been invited back for next year!

I’m finally mailing our Illinois state taxes.
Snail mail is necessary, to send extra paperwork required.
Doggone Tax Time.
Stapling W-2 then mailing.
Just a week or so after finishing…
There is a grape jelly smudge on them.
Oh well.
A l’il sign of Food, Family and Life.
That about sums it up.
For these are the things that go “in between” the famous Ben Franklin quote, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
So we learn to savor each day and happy moment we are given, even as we dutifully see to the need to fulfill all legal requirements.

Happy Chocolate Day!

I admit to a bit o’chocolate over indulgence today…
– chocolate cake batter licked from beaters, spatula and bowl
– 2 squares Ghirardelli dark (before lunch)
– 6 thin mints (frozen, how I like ‘em best after lunch)
That’s just as of 1:01p.m.
They day is still young!
I sorta wonder…what’ll be next?!
Probably chocolate icing straight from the store bought can…that is, if I were a bettin’ woman.

a.k.a. Valentine’s Day

awake

NOTE TO SELF: Don’t uncrate the happy to see you big dog, while just wrapped in a towel with another towel wrapped turban style upon your head. ‘Cause if you do, the one on your head will fall off, the other one will slip, and that dog’s pointy nose doesn’t need to go THERE…

The bright side is: I had an oh so lovely, steamin’ hot shower, on a rainy, thunder-stormin’ Tuesday morn. Rain helps. It just does. Soothes me on the inside. Pourin’ down by the bucketful.

Once I throw some clothes on, and feed my dear sweet boys, Blue dog and I are walkin’ in the rain. He’ll be wearin’ his usual tan paws and I’ll be wearin’ BOOTS…my peacock adorned rubber rain kind.

abracadabra

Today I had a smiling, laughing, delicious lunch out with my sister and a mutual friend. Afterwards, my sister and I had an hour and forty five minutes to ourselves, so we went to mall. I now have a fabulous, new, longer, casual, walking the dog without freezing my hummingbird ass, winter coat in black AND a new gray scarf that sparkles because my sister insisted on it. ‘Cause even though she’s seven years younger than me, ya tend not to argue with her. The first coat we saw, the only one I tried on, fit like it was made for me. I’m still smiling and feeling mellow and THAT hasn’t happened in a long damn time. She’s magic.

smiling aunt heaven

My four year old nephew, said to me this morning, “Can you please get my boogers?”
Of course, I was glad to help him and even admit to finding his unusual request, quite charming.
I replied with a smile, “Let’s go find a tissue.”
Once said tissue was held up to his stuffy nose, I added, “Blow.”
*happy smiling good sunrise got some damn sleep my sister is here visiting from Arizona and I’m wearing purple for joy morning here…even with huge dark circles, no makeup and eyes that kinda hurt from yesterday’s tears*
