The sky is overcast today
Some rain is falling
Quiet drizzle
Not a storm raging
I love days like today
They calm and soothe me
No pressure to put a sunny smile on
I can just BE

Blue and I are the only ones awake here
Those Wild Boys are going to sleep in
I’m sure of it
Garbage and recycle are on the curb
Summer rain started lightly falling when we were three houses away from home after walking through the park
Coffee and breakfast next
Good morning

I am the crazy lady who just planted sugar snap peas in her garden while a persistent summer rain fell on June 29th. Of course reading the back of the packet more closely now (after the fact), since I missed sowing in April-May, I should have waited until August to plant for a fall crop. Oh well. Seeds are cheap and I have a purposeful crop in my garden now, not weeds. The thistles are cut down and uprooted. The volunteer sunflowers are welcome to stay, for they invite the birds and make me smile.

Here comes the rain
Pouring down from Heaven
Blue is doggy dozing
I had afternoon coffee
But a nap still sounds lovely
Thunder rumbles
Friday afternoon
Drifting on toward evening
Suddenly the shower ends
Birds begin to sing
Our happy feathered friends
Because worms are easy pickings
After the rain

Sunshine filters through pale blue curtains as the ceiling fan whirs above. Rain is forecast for later, but the day begins with sun. I’m lollygagging and not rushing out of bed. Usually by this time (6:30a.m.) Blue dog woofs from the main floor saying, “Anybody there? Hello. Remember me? I gotta go!” How could I forget?! I’m smiling in anticipation of our morning walk and thankful for the sunshine upon waking. Always. I shall appreciate it all the more, knowing rain is coming around noon.

As I think, “What’s that? Looks like a stick.”
Blue pokes it with his nose and then suddenly jerks back.
I laugh and say aloud, “A wiggly worm.”
We timed our walk just right, for between rain storms.
Peacock covered rain boots on my two feet.
Blue rockin’ four furry paws.
The early birds are feastin’ this mornin’ ‘cause the wiggly worms are right out in the open.
Monday again.
Have a good one.
April 8, 2013
There is a storm brewing.
Hopefully not a funnel cloud kind.
Have I mentioned today’s massive high speed winds?!
19mph at the 8:30am soccer game.
Up to 33mph in time for the U10 boys to play at 1:00pm.
Somehow the wind felt even faster than that!

damp sidewalk
from nighttime rain
brisk chill in the air
gray sky remains
no color
and yet
the birds are singing
trilling from the trees
beautiful
joyful
hopeful
birdsong fills me up
I smile broadly
and I mean it
from deep inside
my gut
I am a hopeful woman
for there is beauty
all around
hope springs eternal
like the songs
of those springtime birds
March 18, 2013
Ugh cold weather
Time for sunshine and birdsong
Though spring might break my heart this year
Unless it’s soothing rain balm
March 17, 2013
in this moment
I’m all kinds o’weepy
still wearing my fleece pajamas
with peacock adorned rain boots
(of course)
I don’t care about societal rules
pajamas smajamas, I’m not nude
just leaving the grocery store
where I bought a shamrock plant
figured I could use a l’il luck
hoping for the good kind
years ago, more than 20
my mom gave me shamrocks
for my college dorm room
that’d be four of them
‘cause a green thumb is not my gift
I’d forgotten all about ‘em
until they recently caught my eye
plant after plant
set along a deep window edge
waiting to catch sunlight
I mentioned them aloud
walking down the window lined hall
following the kind woman
one of many helping me through
she casually replied
“They are mine.”
Shamrocks
for luck
‘tis their month you know
March and all
with the fun of St. Patrick’s Day
less than a week away
soon
